Buying Turkey

My husband and I are the hosts of Thanksgiving this year and will have about 20 people over.  I am nervous about the whole turkey thing.  Where is the best place to buy one in Bucks County and is fresh or frozen better?

  • Susan & Dan;

    I am responding to your question about buying turkeys for Thanksgiving.

    We host about 25 or so people, every Thanksgiving, and although they are not in Bucks County, we have ordered our turkey’s from a restaurant in Lawrenceville, for years. The restaurant is called Fedora’s, and they actually fry the turkeys overnight, so that you pick them up Thanksgiving morning. They offer all sorts of sides, and include very specific heating intructions with everything. We also order pies and other things from Colonial Farms, in Washington Crossing. The turkey’s from Fedora’s are absolutely incredibly good. If you have never had fried turkey, it is amazing, when done properly. Not at all greasy, etc, but moist and delicious. If you are intersted, their phone number is 609-895-0844. They are right on Main Street in Lawrenceville, which is only about 10 minutes from Yardley. Colonial Farms number is 215-493-1548. Whatever you do, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

    Fresh turkeys are always a better choice! They cook faster and taste better than frozen.
    As far as how much turkey, think about 8oz of turkey per person or 4oz of turkey breast.
    I will be getting mine at Zook’s at the newtown farmers market, but store bought fresh turkey’s are a good choice as well.
    Hope this helps.
