Suggestions on the Jersey Shore

We moved from the west coast and have been hearing a lot about the Jersey Shore. We have 2 girls ages 10 and 5. Any suggestions on which beach to go to?

We love Ocean City, NJ because of the boardwalk which your girls will enjoy. You are then close to Atlantic City and other shore towns south of Ocean City – Cape May would be a nice day trip from Ocean City, too!

I too recommens Ocean City, NJ. It is a family resort geared to families with young kids. The beaches are clean(need beach tags) The board walk is safe with 2 amusement parks. It is a dry town. No alcohol sold or served. You have to go off the island to purchase alcohol. Lots of family stuff almost daily on the boardwalk, library, beach and downtown.

Absolutely “Ocean City, NJ.” Very family friendly…a dry town (no bars, just byob)…a boardwalk with rides and games your kids will love. Movie theaters on the boardwalk for rainy days. I’d avoid Cape May. Nice town, but virtually no parking if you want to go to the beach. Plus the beach is strewn with sharp shells in some places (unlike Ocean City) with minimal food accomodations near the beach (inc. the absolute worst hotdogs from a streeet vendor near the beach!)

Just a comment on Bill’s recommendation. You can’t even byob in any restaurant in OC. Also, if you meant the hot dog place on 33rd street, it’s gone this year replaced by a breakfast and lunch stand.

Ocean City is a great family town. Lousy restaurants though. Uncle Bill’s Pancake house is great, but expensive. We’re big Wildwood fans, but you have to be careful there. The city of Wildwood can be rough, while North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest are really nice. The crest is the nicest. Tons of good restaurants, fun bars..of course, and a giant beach with no beach tags needed. Great water slides on Morey’s and Mariner’s Piers on the boardwalk. Even if you stay in Ocean city, these waterparks are worth the trip. Plus you can’t beat the “people watching” on the boards. Very interesting! Even though I love Wildwood, I think Ocean City is your best bet.
